The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) unveiled an app for mine workers and mine safety health professionals to track safety hazards in real time.
Version 2.0 of the ErgoMine app is an on-the-ground resource and auditing app to help miners identify, record and track safety hazards and ergonomics at jobsites, NIOSH says. The app, which is suited for both iOS and Android devices, features checklists to help identify slip, trip and fall hazards on stairways, walkways and fixed ladders.
In addition, the app can help miners identify and evaluate risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders. It also features a fix list manager so users can track changes needed at jobsites.
Users can also audit haul truck and bagging operations, NIOSH says, as well as maintenance and repair work.
“ErgoMine 2.0 puts a powerful and easy-to-use auditing tool right where mining professionals need one – in their hands,” says Jessica Kogel, associate director for mining at NIOSH. “ErgoMine is a versatile app that mine safety professionals and workers alike can use to identify and address musculoskeletal hazards at the jobsite.”
